Les Rapides win league
The senior girls soccer team from École secondaire catholique le Relais claimed the Prescott-Russell league championship last week, with a 2-0 victory over ESC Embrun.
Myriam Boisvenue opened the scoring 22 minutes into the match, booting a 20-yarder from outside the penalty box.
Les Rapides maintained territorial advantage for much of the game, moving the ball effectively around the field to prevent the opponent from threatening to any significant extent.
On a second-half free kick, Sara Carrière made it 2-0, bending a well-placed shot over the Cyclones goalkeeper.
Le Relais reached the title tilt, following a 1-0 semifinal victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. Olivia Décoeur and Carrière combined for the goal.
Les Rapides were unbeaten in league play over the course of the regular season.
The girls will have to wait until spring to see action again, at EOSSAA, with other school asso- ciations scheduled for their league play beginning in late April.
