Council still opts for fewer meetings
BY SCOTT CARMICHAEL
Staff The 2019 South Glengarry council regular meeting schedule features only one session in January, July, August and December.
Holding only one meeting during the summer months, as well as the last month of the year, is customary.
However, as was the case in 2018, council decided last week that there would be only one regular meeting in January 2019 – on the 21st – as the municipal office’s shutdown dur- ing the Christmas holidays would not provide adequate time to prepare an agenda for the first regular meeting of the year, which would have taken place on January 7.
There will be two meetings held in each of the remaining eight months of 2019.
In addition, the present council decided at its last session together on November 19 that the first meeting of the newly-elected council will be held on Wednesday, December 5 at the Char-Lan Recreation Centre, at 6 p.m. – instead of December 3 at 7 p.m. at the township municipal office in Lancaster.
During the November 19 meeting, township clerk Kelli Campeau explained that “several of our neighbouring municipalities are holding their inaugural meetings on the first Monday of December,” and that “some members of our council may wish to attend these meetings.”
The new council – consisting of Mayor Frank Prevost, Deputy Mayor Lyle Warden, and new councillors, Stephanie Jaworski, Martin Lang and Sam McDonell – will be sworn in on December 5.
