Slight rise in jobless rate
The regional unemployment rate rose from 5.4 to 5.5 per cent between November and December, according to Statistics Canada.
The jobless rate remains below the December, 2017 figure of 6.8 per cent.
The numbers are for a region that encompasses Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell, Frontenac, Lanark, Leeds and Grenville and Renfrew counties.
The situation in Eastern Ontario is similar to the national picture.
The unemployment rate is now 5.8 per cent. Since November 2017, the jobless rate has ranged from 5.8% to 6.0%.
In Ontario, the unemployment rate has been hovering at around 5.6 per cent.
