Slight rise in job­less rate

The re­gional un­em­ploy­ment rate rose from 5.4 to 5.5 per cent be­tween Novem­ber and De­cem­ber, ac­cord­ing to Sta­tis­tics Canada.

The job­less rate re­mains be­low the De­cem­ber, 2017 fig­ure of 6.8 per cent.

The num­bers are for a re­gion that en­com­passes Stor­mont, Dun­das, Glen­garry, Prescott, Rus­sell, Fron­tenac, La­nark, Leeds and Grenville and Ren­frew coun­ties.

The sit­u­a­tion in East­ern On­tario is sim­i­lar to the na­tional pic­ture.

The un­em­ploy­ment rate is now 5.8 per cent. Since Novem­ber 2017, the job­less rate has ranged from 5.8% to 6.0%.

In On­tario, the un­em­ploy­ment rate has been hov­er­ing at around 5.6 per cent.
