McCrimmon, Bar Flies knotted atop GSL men’s table
Through seven weeks of play in the Glengarry Soccer League’s winter indoor season, the senior men’s teams playing under the McCrimmon and Bar Flies monikers find themselves atop the table, with 13 points, on records of 4 wins, 1 tie, and 2 losses.
McCrimmon has the edge in goal differential, though, at +9 to +7 for the Flies.
Last week, McCrimmon prevailed 7-3 over Alexandria FC, riding a hat- trick effort from Shawn Vink. Also scoring for the winning side were Nicholas Wenger, Matthew Watts, Rony Odermatt, and Andy Brittle.
Andrew Wilkes scored twice in the losing cause, with the other Alexandria tally netted by Kevin Doyle.
The Bar Flies picked up a victory on Dec. 6 without having to play, as their opponent, Pine Grove, forfeited. The game went into the books as a 2-0 decision.
Alexandria FC enters this week in third place, just 3 points behind the leaders, while Pine Grove is fourth, with 4 points.
Week eight action on Dec. 13 is scheduled to have McCrimmon play Pine Grove at 7:30 p.m., followed an hour later by a match between the Bar Flies and Alexandria FC.
Dunvegan women lead
On the women’s side through seven weeks, Dunvegan leads, with 13 points, three better than Glen Nevis. Alexandria stands third (9 points), with Dalhart in the basement (0).
Last week saw a pair of lopsided results, including Dunvegan blanking Alexandria 6-0, on the strength of two goals each from Michelle DeRepentigny, Emily McDonald, and Nadine Odermatt.
The other Dec. 4 contest saw Glen Nevis top Dalhart 7-2. Filling the net for the winners were Ashton MacDonald (2), Joanna Booyink, Josee Hagen, Logan Leger, Jessica McLeod, Madison MacDonald, and Katie McDougald.
Heidi MacKay and Cynthia MacLachlan had the Dalhart tallies.
Two matches remain on the 2018 docket, set for Dec. 18.
