Ruling the waves
Greenfield youngster Alivia Kyer, age 11, recently competed at the CAMO Qualifiers Swim Meet, in Montreal, where she had six personal-best times.
Her best finishes came in the 800 m freestyle (fifth) and the 200 m backstroke (eighth). Kyer met the provincial time standard in four events: 50 m, 200 m, and 400 m freestyle, and 200 m individual medley, qualifying for festivals in February. She also earned a berth in the Eastern Regional Championships.
Alivia has been invited to a swimming development camp, hosted by Swim Ontario, along with teammate Lydia Kilger, age 12.
At the Snowflake Invitational, on Nov. 2325 in Cornwall, our Glengarry quartet of competitive swimmers made waves in the pool.
One of the highlights of the weekend, was seeing a third county swimmer qualify for Eastern Regionals, as Maddyson Kyer earned her spot in the 200 m backstroke.
The three-day meet accommodated over 400 swimmers from Eastern Ontario and Quebec, ranging in age from 7 to 18 , with 20 competitive events offered.
In the 11-12 age division, Alivia posted regional qualifying times in eight events. Her best showings came in the 50 m backstroke, 200 m backstroke, 200 m freestyle, and the 400 m freestyle.

Seven-year-old Isabelle Kyer had top times in the 50 m and 100 m freestyle, and in the 50 m backstroke.
Hailey McDonald, age 9, who hails from Martintown, qualified for regionals in eight events.
McDonald managed to better her time in the 100 m freestyle, following a very successful NYAC Cup competition at the beginning of November.
Dates to look forward to: Eastern Regional Championship, Feb. 1- 3 at the Nepean Sportsplex in Ottawa; and the Ontario Winter Festivals for 12 & under, Feb. 16- 17, in Etobicoke.
Alivia, Hailey, Isabelle, and Maddyson would like to take this time to wish their Glengarry sponsors, CSL sponsors, followers, friends, and family a very Merry Christmas, Hanukkah, and/or a happy and safe holiday to all.
