New offering for Trails
The Summerstown Trails are welcoming a new sport this season, as Fat Bikes will be able to take advantage of 10 km of groomed trails in the forest.
The project is a partnership between the Friends of the Summerstown Trails and the Raisin Region Conservation Authority. Fat bikes, also known as snow bikes, have wide tires with low pressure, helping to provide riders with more stability and traction. The bikes also are unable to achieve much speed. Riders are expected to follow trail etiquette, yielding to walkers and snowshoers. A demonstration will take place as part of the Trails’ official opening on Jan. 6.
SOMETHING NEW: Joe McNamara, FOTST board member, enjoys a ride on his fat bike.
