Catholic high school rivals Holy Trinity and St. Joseph’s will see their hockey teams do battle in the Feb. 27 Bishop Cup, set to be played at the Cornwall Civic Complex, at 6:30 p.m.
Last week’s nasty winter storm impacted a number of sports schedules, including Feb. 12 women’s soccer at the dome. Those matches have been rescheduled to Feb. 22.
High school curling had been set to begin in Cornwall last Wednesday, but is instead being played this week in Morrisburg.
Also, boys high school hockey slated for Feb. 13 was moved to today, Feb. 20.
Le Relais’ junior boys basketball team reached the PRSSAA playoff semifinals on Feb. 15, before bowing out, 55-28.
As coach Eric Crête puts it, “We gave them a good run.”
On the season, les Rapides were 4-2, with wins against le Sommet (47-13), ESCR Hawkesbury (50-12), l’Escale (37-36), and VCI (49-36).
Losses came against l’Escale (49-45) and Casselman (75-28).
Elie scores for Amerks
Green Valley’s Remi Elie notched his first goal with the AHL Rochester Americans, farm club of the Buffalo Sabres which hold his NHL playing rights, on Feb. 12, in a 5-2 loss to the Cleveland Monsters.
Elie also assisted on his team’s other tally, while recording 5 shots on goal and staying even on +/-.
It was the 23-year-old’s fourth game with the Amerks, since joining the team, after he was placed on waivers by the Sabres.
High school hockey
