Bar Flies take over first

The Glengarry News - - Sports In The Glens - There are three weeks of regular-season play remaining, scheduled for Feb. 21, Feb. 28, and March 7. – Sean Bray

What could have been an evenly-matched battle for sole possession of first place in the Glengarry Soccer League’s senior men’s division instead turned out to be a bit of a one-sided affair, as the Bar Flies romped to a 6-1 victory over McCrimmon.

That’s not to say the White Shirts didn’t have their chances to score, despite playing the entire night short-handed, with just three players, aside from their goalkeeper.

Bar Flies goalie Tyler Hay had to make a number of stellar stops. The only one that got past him came early, off the foot of Shawn Vink.

Meanwhile, the Bar Flies used the open field to move the ball, work on their passing, and set up plays, frequently testing McCrimmon keeper Nicholas Wenger.

The offence was distributed too, with four players scoring. Cameron Poirier and Lochlan MacDonald each had two goals, while Logan Keurentjes and Kenny MacMillan counted singles.

With the victory, the Bar Flies moved ahead of McCrimmon by three points, 28 to 25.

In the other Feb. 14 match, Alexandria FC edged Pine Grove 5-4, on goals from Yale Chadsey (2), Spencer Lordz (2), and Sullivan Van Loon. Colin Webster had all four markers for Pine Grove.

Alexandria’s win brings them up to 25 points, tied with McCrimmon for second place.
