GDHS se­nior teams in boys bas­ket­ball and girls volleyball were play­off run­ners-up at their re­spec­tive SD&G tour­na­ments.

St. Lawrence hosted the bas­ket­ball event, and it was the Saints whom the Gaels faced in the fi­nal, in what coach Kather­ine Adams de­scribes as a great game.

It was close into the sec­ond half, when St. Lawrence pulled away to win 67-47.

In semi­fi­nal play, the Gaels dis­patched l’Her­itage 59-42.

Se­nior ‘A’ girls volleyball play­offs were held Feb. 14 at l’Her­itage, where the third-ranked Gaels beat Char- Lan ( 25- 15, 25-15) in the quar­ter-fi­nal round and up­set sec­ond- place la Ci­tadelle (25-19, 25-15) in the semis.

In the fi­nal, the Gaels were felled by the Dragons in straight sets, 25-11 and 25-13

The an­nual Cry­baby Cup recre­ational hockey tour­na­ment in Maxville is this year sched­uled for March 23. Teams are guar­an­teed three games, with pro­ceeds split be­tween the win­ning squad and the Maxville Li­ons Club. En­try is $600. Le Re­lais volleyball

Mélina Di­caire, coach of le Re­lais’ ju­nior girls volleyball team, tells that the sea­son has been go­ing well, with les Rapi­des re­cently win­ning a tier 2 tour­na­ment in Van­kleek Hill. The girls will com­pete this week in PRSSAA play­offs, ranked 8th of 13 teams, notes co-coach Jan­ick Bes­ner.

Broom­ball week­end

The Glen­garry Sports Palace in Alexan­dria will be taken over this week­end by the Eastern On­tario re­gional broom­ball cham­pi­onships, be­gin­ning Fri­day at 7 p.m. Games con­tinue Satur­day, 7 a. m. through mid­night, and then Sun­day 8 a.m. into the af­ter­noon.
