GDHS senior teams in boys basketball and girls volleyball were playoff runners-up at their respective SD&G tournaments.
St. Lawrence hosted the basketball event, and it was the Saints whom the Gaels faced in the final, in what coach Katherine Adams describes as a great game.
It was close into the second half, when St. Lawrence pulled away to win 67-47.
In semifinal play, the Gaels dispatched l’Heritage 59-42.
Senior ‘A’ girls volleyball playoffs were held Feb. 14 at l’Heritage, where the third-ranked Gaels beat Char- Lan ( 25- 15, 25-15) in the quarter-final round and upset second- place la Citadelle (25-19, 25-15) in the semis.
In the final, the Gaels were felled by the Dragons in straight sets, 25-11 and 25-13
The annual Crybaby Cup recreational hockey tournament in Maxville is this year scheduled for March 23. Teams are guaranteed three games, with proceeds split between the winning squad and the Maxville Lions Club. Entry is $600. Le Relais volleyball
Mélina Dicaire, coach of le Relais’ junior girls volleyball team, tells that the season has been going well, with les Rapides recently winning a tier 2 tournament in Vankleek Hill. The girls will compete this week in PRSSAA playoffs, ranked 8th of 13 teams, notes co-coach Janick Besner.
The Glengarry Sports Palace in Alexandria will be taken over this weekend by the Eastern Ontario regional broomball championships, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. Games continue Saturday, 7 a. m. through midnight, and then Sunday 8 a.m. into the afternoon.
