Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Counties council wants the province to take action on improving Highway 138.

At its Feb. 19 council meeting, council passed a resolution asking the Ministry of Transportation to prioritize the findings from the Preliminary Design and Class EA Study for the highway, which it completed in 2017.

Highway 138, which extends from the 401 to the 417, is an important provincial corridor that has in recent years been described as “dangerous.”

The resolution calls on the ministry to construct carpooling lots and improve intersections at County Road 44 (Headline Road) and at County Road 18 (St. Andrew’s.)

The resolution also calls for the construction of passing lanes at various locations and for other intersection and traffic safety improvements.

“The counties requests [funding] the detailed design for these specific improvements within the next provincial budget and commit to the development and implementation plan to ensure that the recommended improvements are completed in the near future,” said the motion.
