Women battle to nil-nil finish
In Feb. 19 Glengarry Soccer League senior women’s action at the dome, top- ranked Dunvegan was kept at bay by Alexandria, as the squads played to a nil-nil finish.
Opposing goalkeepers Brittany MacLennan ( Alexandria) and Caroline DeRepentigny were in fine form, stopping everything directed their way.
The evening’s other match didn’t lack for offence, as Glen Nevis trounced Dalhart 9-1.
Logan Leger notched a hat trick, while Joanna Booyink, Katie McDougald, and Alexia Winkiewicz each had two tallies.
Serena Russett scored the lone Dalhart marker.
A make-up match on Feb. 22 (originally scheduled for Feb. 12), saw Dunvegan blank Dalhart 8-0, on the strength of two goals each from Genevieve Beauchesne, Ava Gandia, Emily McDonald, and an unidentified player.
The other game that was scrubbed Feb. 12, Glen Nevis versus Alexandria, has not been rescheduled.
Two matches were scheduled to be played last night, Feb. 26, with the final evening of regular-season action booked for March 5.
That night will have Alexandria and Glen Nevis play at 7:30 p.m., followed by Dalhart and Dunvegan at 8:30 p.m.
Dunvegan has long since clinched first place, winners of 13 of 16 games, but the battle for second remains, between Glen Nevis and Alexandria.
