GDHS Gaels curlers garner gold, sil­ver at SD&G cham­pi­onships

Glen­garry Dis­trict High School has two curl­ing teams com­pet­ing at EOSSAA this week, rep­re­sent­ing SD&G.

The mixed rink of Brooke Lapierre, Shayla MacNaughto­n, Matthew Bill, and Matthew Hein­zle won gold at the SDGAA cham­pi­onships, which were held Feb. 19 and 20, in Mor­ris­burg.

On day one, the Gaels mixed team got off to a strong start, beat­ing la Ci­tadelle 8-2.

The sec­ond day of ac­tion was much tighter.

First up, Glen­garry took on Se­away, pre­vail­ing 6-5.

Then it was on to play St. Joseph’s, and once again the Gaels won on a 6-5 score.

The Gaels fin­ished the bonspiel a per­fect 3-0 to take gold and earn their spot at EOSSAAA.

In the boys di­vi­sion, there were two pools of three teams, with the Glen­garry squad in pool B, along with Holy Trin­ity and Tagwi.

Day one saw the Gaels get past the War­riors 5-3 and the Fal­cons 8-3, to ad­vance to the semi­fi­nal
