Village pushes back
Moose Creek is planning to give a special birthday present to Claude Provost when he turns 98 March 20.
“This is why Moose Creek is a great place to live,” says Nick Forgues, relating that after a thief stole a door push bar from Mr. Provost’s store, residents swung into action.
“The community cannot understand how someone would do something like that,” says Mr. Forgues.
“We are sending a call out to the person who took it to return it, no questions asked.”
Meanwhile, “We have located an identical handle and will be giving it to him on his birthday as a community.”
Mr. Provost was understandably upset when the vintage 7-Up push bar handle was taken, adds Wendy Hill.
She is leading the effort to replace the antique, which is worth $300 to $400, depending on the condition of the piece.
“I will gladly head up this project to give back to the man and the store that have brought us all such happiness (and convenience) for so many years,” she says. “I'm sure we all agree that the store is part of our history as well as his own personal history and hope you will consider a small donation so that we can make this right for him.”
