Ma­jor Mid­get Rebels reach UCMHL fi­nals

The top-ranked Char-Lan ma­jor mid­get ‘B’ rep Rebels hockey team has qual­i­fied for the UCMHL cham­pi­onship se­ries with the North Dun­das Demons, set to start March 19, in Ch­ester­ville.

Char-Lan won 25 of 28 games dur­ing the reg­u­lar sea­son, go­ing on to sweep Brockville, on scores of 8-1 and 7-4, in the open­ing play­off se­ries.

The Rebs then quickly dis­patched Perth 7-3 and 1-0 to earn a berth in the five-point fi­nal se­ries.

The Demons fin­ished the reg­u­lar sea­son in third place, with 15 wins, 5 ties, and 8 losses.

Game one of the ti­tle se­ries is set to have a 7 p.m. puck drop, with the sec­ond match in Wil­liamstown on March 20, start­ing at 8:30 p.m.

The third con­test is also slated for the Char-Lan Rec. Cen­tre, to be played March 22, at 7 p.m.

Should the se­ries be ex­tended, game four will be played March 25 in Winch­ester, at 7 p.m., with a fifth con­test back in Wil­liamstown on March 27, at 8 p.m.

Dur­ing the 2018-19 reg­u­lar sea­son, the teams met four times, with Char-Lan sweep­ing. The most re­cent was Jan 10, when the Rebels pre­vailed 6-2.

Char-Lan tops in the league in both goals scored and al­lowed, aver­ag­ing 4.54 and 1.75, re­spec­tively.
