Major Midget Rebels reach UCMHL finals
The top-ranked Char-Lan major midget ‘B’ rep Rebels hockey team has qualified for the UCMHL championship series with the North Dundas Demons, set to start March 19, in Chesterville.
Char-Lan won 25 of 28 games during the regular season, going on to sweep Brockville, on scores of 8-1 and 7-4, in the opening playoff series.
The Rebs then quickly dispatched Perth 7-3 and 1-0 to earn a berth in the five-point final series.
The Demons finished the regular season in third place, with 15 wins, 5 ties, and 8 losses.
Game one of the title series is set to have a 7 p.m. puck drop, with the second match in Williamstown on March 20, starting at 8:30 p.m.
The third contest is also slated for the Char-Lan Rec. Centre, to be played March 22, at 7 p.m.
Should the series be extended, game four will be played March 25 in Winchester, at 7 p.m., with a fifth contest back in Williamstown on March 27, at 8 p.m.
During the 2018-19 regular season, the teams met four times, with Char-Lan sweeping. The most recent was Jan 10, when the Rebels prevailed 6-2.
Char-Lan tops in the league in both goals scored and allowed, averaging 4.54 and 1.75, respectively.
