U18 Hawks advance to semifinals
The U18 Hawkesbury Hawks hockey team advanced to the HEO ‘AAA’ league playoff semifinals, after ousting the Kemptville 73s on Monday, in game three of their quarter-final series.
The Hawks surrendered the first goal in the opening frame, but rallied with a pair in the third to prevail 2-1.
Hawkesbury only needed to tie this game to advance, as they led the four-point series heading into the March 11 match.
The series, which was played entirely in Ottawa, opened on March 6, when, once again, the Hawks had to battle from behind. This time, it was a goal by Alexandria’s Felix Sauve, a defenceman, which salvaged a point, in the 1-1 tie.
Game two, by contrast, saw Hawkesbury build a 2-0 lead, only to see the 73s draw even. The Hawks won it in overtime, when Sauve set up the winning marker.
The U18 Hawks will next face Rockland, starting March 19. The other semi series will feature Smiths Falls and Pembroke.
