A 79-year-old former priest, who was convicted of sexual assault in 1986, will appear in court next month to face charges of sexual assault in connection with offences that allegedly took place more than 40 years ago.

Gilles Deslauriers, of Vercheres, Québec was arrested March 12 and charged with two counts of indecent assault on a male. These charges are in relation to alleged incidents involving a boy in Green Valley, dating back to 1976.

The arrest was made as the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and the SD&G OPP Crime Unit. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in Alexandria court April 3. Mr. Deslauriers had pleaded guilty in 1986 to abusing four boys from Cornwall. He was among the priests investigated during the Cornwall Public Inquiry.
