Village presents special birthday gift

Claude Provost received a birthday gift from the community when he turned 98 March 20.

When a thief stole a door push bar from Mr. Provost’s store in Moose Creek, residents decided to try to replace the vintage 7-Up push bar.

Mr. Provost was understandably thrilled when he was presented with the antique item.

“He couldn't believe how much it looked like the one that was stolen and that it was an actual original piece from 1956,” relates Wendy Hill who along with her son came up with the idea of organizing the drive to raise funds in order to buy a replacement.

“We spoiled him with two birthday cakes made by ladies in the community and he was so touched knowing the village of Moose Creek loves him and appreciates him,” she adds.

“He is not going to let the thief bring him down and looks forward to the replacement push bar being re-installed exactly where it belongs, on the front door to Provost General Store!” Of course, security upgrades will take place in order to prevent any further thefts.
