Pour money into education

The Glengarry News - - The Opinion Page -

The Editor, In response to the new budget cuts to the education system, it is time to see the big picture.

In my opinion Doug Ford’s education cuts are a violation of human rights under “Inclusion” and these cuts will set many children up for failure before they are even given a fair chance.

The new plan in education cuts will protect the already advantaged children, and we will leave “the others” behind. So what does this offer “the others”? A future of being a burden to society and they will continue to be labelled “the others,” which offers a life of continued poverty and for some, crime.

This plan carves out a bleak destiny for “the others.” So where is the inclusion in all of this?

Added to that, let’s look at the future of our educators. Increase the classroom sizes without support? This promises a high burn-out rate for the teachers; they will lose hope and interest, symptomatic of burnout with the likelihood of going on sick leave, and while this goes on, the parents of the advantaged children will see the deterioration of the public education system and move their children/place their children in private schools for a better education.

So where is the equality in all of this? This plan will be creating a two class systems -- the have and the have-nots -- and it starts here Doug Ford. So this is what the future promises when you leave children behind.

I say pour your funds into the education system! Give our children the best start in life as possible, the best opportunities in the short time that we have them. The rewards of such an investment will be immeasurable. Geraldine Fitzpatrick Borland, Lancaster
