BY SEAN BRAY Sports Editor Third-ranked Glen Nevis ousted second-place Alexandria in the Glengarry Soccer League’s senior women’s knockout semifinal round last week to earn a spot in the championship series.

The match was a marathon, decided on penalty kicks.

Alexandria’s Braelyn MacMaster drew the match even at 1-1, with a shot from just across the line that found its way through a crowd. That seemed to give the Burgundy- clad ladies some momentum, but they were unable to capitalize.

Glen Nevis’ Joanna Booyink scored for her team in the first half.

A pair of five-minute overtime periods failed to decide to the game, so it was on to penalties.

Four of five Glen Nevis (Katie McDougald, Jessica McLeod, Logan Leger, and Kyla Burwash) women were successful from the spot, to three for Alexandria (MacMaster, Julie Paradis, and Victoria Villalba).

The other March 19 semifinal was a decidedly lopsided affair, as Dunvegan pasted Dalhart 10-0. The victorious side was led by Alexis Demers, who scored four goals. Emma Barton and Emily MacDonald contributed three each.

Glen Nevis built a 2-0 lead, surprising top-ranked Dunvegan.

The Blue Shirts failed to find any offensive touch until the late going, as Michelle DeRepentigny scored twice in the final five minutes to draw her side even.

The game was eventually decided on penalty kicks, in favour of Glen Nevis.

In all, six different members of Team Yellow (Jessica McLeod, Maddie MacDonald, Logan Leger, Kalica Rose, Ashton MacDonald, and Katie McDougald) scored in the match. DeRepentigny potted two from the spot, with Ava Gandia adding one.

Game two of the series was scheduled for last night, March 26, at the dome, with results not available prior to press time.
