Bar Flies bag GSL trophy
BY SEAN BRAY Sports Editor For the second straight season, the Bar Flies are the senior men’s indoor champions in the Glengarry Soccer League. The Flies, who finished the regular season atop the standings, albeit by way of a tie-breaker, swept McCrimmon in the final series, which was capped off last week with a 5-0 romp.
Cam MacDonald started the scoring early. The Bar Flies doubled their advantage, off a play that saw Kenny MacMillan feed Jared MacLeod, who in turn set up Liam MacDonald for his first of three markers in the match.
The Flies kept buzzing, as Logan Keurentjes drove one off the goalpost. Moments later, MacMillan booted one firmly off McCrimmon goalkeeper Neil Wenger’s paws and into the net.
Wenger was under siege for long stretches of the game, making numerous stellar stops.
At the the other end the pitch, Tyler Hay, who affectionately goes by the nickname ‘Tank,’ was tested with regularity as well.
His defence, particularly Cameron Poirier, also were key in keeping McCrimmon at bay. Poirier had two important blocks back-to-back on blistering shots , as Team White fought to get back in the match, trailing 3-0 early in the second half.
The opening game of the series was much closer, finishing up 5-3 in favour of the Bar Flies, as we reported last week in
