Skat­ing Club busts moves

The Char-Lan Skat­ing Club’s an­nual sea­son-cap­ping show­case, themed ‘Bust a Move,’ took place March 24, in Wil­liamstown, where dozens of young ath­letes per­formed their rou­tines, much to the de­light of fam­ily and friends fill­ing the stands.

The one-hour-plus event high­lighted the fun­da­men­tal skills that the skaters had worked on dur­ing the sea­son, with mu­si­cally-in­spired per­for­mance pieces.

The more ad­vanced ath­letes of the STARskate pro­gram (Skills, Tests, Achieve­ment, Recog­ni­tion) took to the ice for a rou­tine back­stopped by ‘Hand Jive.’

Solo skaters per­form­ing dur­ing the show in­cluded Ka­t­rina Vi­varaies, Char­lotte Phy­pers, Freya Cock­ings, Jes­sica Lopez, Michael Mof­fatt, Evie Cock­ings, Tessa Davies, and El­iz­a­beth Ed­wards.

At the end of the show­case, awards were handed out, rec­og­niz­ing ath­letes on their sea­son ac­com­plish­ments. Spe­cial hon­ours went to Ju­lian Cour­tel (CanSkate most im­proved male), Ella Deschamps (CanSkate most im­proved fe­male), Oliver Phy­pers (CanSkater of the Year), Michaela Mof­fatt (STARskater of the Year), and Tessa Davies and Ka­t­rina Vi­varaies (co-win­ners CanSkate Pro­gram As­sis­tant of the Year).
