Skating Club busts moves
The Char-Lan Skating Club’s annual season-capping showcase, themed ‘Bust a Move,’ took place March 24, in Williamstown, where dozens of young athletes performed their routines, much to the delight of family and friends filling the stands.
The one-hour-plus event highlighted the fundamental skills that the skaters had worked on during the season, with musically-inspired performance pieces.
The more advanced athletes of the STARskate program (Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition) took to the ice for a routine backstopped by ‘Hand Jive.’
Solo skaters performing during the show included Katrina Vivaraies, Charlotte Phypers, Freya Cockings, Jessica Lopez, Michael Moffatt, Evie Cockings, Tessa Davies, and Elizabeth Edwards.
At the end of the showcase, awards were handed out, recognizing athletes on their season accomplishments. Special honours went to Julian Courtel (CanSkate most improved male), Ella Deschamps (CanSkate most improved female), Oliver Phypers (CanSkater of the Year), Michaela Moffatt (STARskater of the Year), and Tessa Davies and Katrina Vivaraies (co-winners CanSkate Program Assistant of the Year).
