Board trims $774,000

The Up­per Canada Dis­trict School Board has trimmed more than $774,000 in spend­ing af­ter staff re­sponded to a mo­tion to re­duce the ini­tial $1.8 mil­lion deficit ap­proved in May of 2018.

Fol­low­ing the Fe­bru­ary 27 di­rec­tion to staff, the se­nior man­age­ment con­ducted a full re­view of all planned ex­pen­di­tures, with the goals of avoid­ing any serious im­pact on stu­dent learn­ing and main­tain­ing a safe and wel­com­ing en­vi­ron­ment in schools.

IT projects de­ferred

Mea­sures ac­cepted by trustees in­cluded a de­fer­ment of some IT projects, re­duc­tions to non-es­sen­tial main­te­nance work, de­fer­rals for fill­ing some va­cant staff po­si­tions within dif­fer­ent de­part­ments, and re­duc­tions to the dis­trict’s In­ter­na­tional Ed­u­ca­tion Pro­gram.
