Res­i­dents and busi­ness own­ers are be­ing asked to par­tic­i­pate in the “Shine A Light On Com­mu­nity Liv­ing” cam­paign through­out May.

“The pur­pose of this event is to sup­port the peo­ple liv­ing with in­tel­lec­tual dis­abil­i­ties,” says Com­mu­nity Liv­ing Glen­garry. “We ask that you join us in par­tic­i­pat­ing in this ini­tia­tive by chang­ing your build­ing’s ex­te­rior lights to blue and green in sup­port of the Com­mu­nity Liv­ing move­ment. To­gether, we can cre­ate a pow­er­ful ex­am­ple of in­clu­sion that will shine not only in Glen­garry, but through­out many other communitie­s around the province.” Schools have been in­vited to have stu­dents wear green or blue on a Fri­day in May. Posters have been distribute­d with the “Shine A Light On Glen­garry” logo to be dis­played in win­dows of busi­nesses.

Green and blue wreathes that can be placed on doors can be pur­chased at the Com­mu­nity Liv­ing of­fice, 332 Mac­don­ald Blvd., Alexan­dria or by call­ing 613-577-2740. Green and blue light bulbs are avail­able for pur­chase at Home Hard­ware. Com­mu­nity Liv­ing can help those need­ing sup­port to buy the lights.
