Hearts U16 girls blank visitors
Glengarry’s U16 Hearts girls soccer team, one of eight squads that the county has competing this summer in the East Region Soccer League, remained unbeaten on the season, following a 2- 0 victory over the West Carleton Talons, on June 1, in Alexandria.
Played at Island Park, on Gerry Simpson Field, the match saw the home side dominate territorially for long stretches.
The Hearts scored early on, some six minutes in, and again at the 75-minute mark when a firm shot from 25 yards out eluded the reach of the West Carleton goalkeeper.
Glengarry’s marks women were Miriam Boisvenue, with already her fourth of the season, and Camilla Gauthier, with her first.
Alexa Sabourin was the Hearts’ goalkeeper of record, earning her first shutout.
The victory was the team’s second in as many tries, as the ladies previously topped Ottawa TFC Red, 4-1.
Boisvenue delivered a hat-trick in that match, with the other tally from Ella Bowles.
Next home action for the girls is slated for June 25, at Island Park, where the Hearts will host the Ottawa Internationals, starting at 6:30 p.m.
HEART STOPPER: Hearts U16 girls soccer team goalkeeper Alexa Sabourin makes a save, under duress, as West Carleton’s Mai-Lyn McIntaggart drives to the box, flanked by Glengarry’s Mei Le Cumming.
