MPP ap­pointed as­sis­tant to Mu­nic­i­pal Af­fairs min­ster

Staff Stor­mont- Dun­das- South Glen­garry MPP Jim McDonell was among 31 par­lia­men­tary as­sis­tants ap­pointed by Premier Doug Ford last week (June 26).

Mr. McDonell, who has rep­re­sented the lo­cal rid­ing since 2011, was named coPar­lia­men­tary As­sis­tant to the Min­is­ter of Mu­nic­i­pal Af­fairs and Hous­ing, Steve Clark.

He will share the port­fo­lio with Mil­ton MPP Parm Gill, with Mr. McDonell han­dling mu­nic­i­pal af­fairs and Mr. Gill in charge of hous­ing.

Among the oth­ers on the list of new ap­pointees is Kitch­ener— Con­estoga MPP Mike Har­ris Jr., the son of for­mer On­tario Premier Mike Har­ris, who was named Par­lia­men­tary As­sis­tant to the Min­is­ter of Nat­u­ral Re­sources and Forestry, John Yakabuski; and Norm Miller, Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP and the son of Frank Miller, the for­mer Tory MPP who was briefly provin­cial premier in 1985.

The younger Miller is the new Par­lia­men­tary As­sis­tant to the Min­is­ter of In­ter­gov­ern­men­tal Af­fairs, Premier Ford.

Ac­cord­ing to a press re­lease from the Premier’s Of­fice, par­lia­men­tary as­sis­tants sup­port min­is­ters with leg­isla­tive and com­mit­tee mat­ters, in­clud­ing spe­cial projects and as­sign­ments.

They also “play a key role in build­ing re­la­tion­ships and com­mu­ni­cat­ing govern­ment ini­tia­tives across the prov­ince.”
