Five to be in­ducted into Hall of Fame

As is tra­di­tion, The Glen­garry Sports Hall of Fame will be wel­com­ing five new in­ductees at its 41st An­nual In­duc­tion din­ner to be held at the Char Lan Recre­ation Cen­tre in Wil­liamstown Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 21.

In­cluded in this year’s dis­tin­guished group are re­tired ed­u­ca­tor and com­mu­nity ac­tivist Tina Cairn­cross of Glen Roy, Alexandria’s road racer and marathoner Cathy MacLean, and pro­fes­sional hockey player Kent McDonell, orig­i­nally from Wil­liamstown. All-around ath­lete Campbell (Geeses) MacGil­livray and spe­cial Olympian Hugh Mac­Don­ald will be in­ducted posthu­mously. Campbell MacGil­livray was pre­vi­ously in­ducted in 1997 as a mem­ber with the 1940 Pine Grove Foot­ball (Soc­cer) Club. All five nom­i­nees share out­stand­ing sport pedi­grees and their sto­ries and ex­pe­ri­ences will join those of past in­ductees in the Glen­garry Sports Hall of Fame in Maxville. The di­rec­tors of the Hall of Fame wel­come Glen­garry’s Glenn McDonell as the evening’s guest speaker. Glenn MacDonell is cur­rently Pres­i­dent and Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer for Spe­cial Olympics On­tario. Tick­ets for the in­duc­tion din­ner and cer­e­mony are avail­able for pur­chase at Loiselle Sports in Alexandria, Auld Kirk­town in Lan­caster as well as the Hall of Fame and from all di­rec­tors.
