Employment prospects continue to improve in Eastern Ontario, where the jobless rate has decreased by more than one per cent in the last year, according to Statistics Canada.

At the end of June, the unemployment rate stood at 4.1 per cent, compared to 4.8 per cent at the end of May and to 5.7 per cent in July of 2918.

The figures are for a region that encompasses Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell, Frontenac, Lanark, Leeds and Grenville and Renfrew counties.

Figures indicate that the regional rate is below both the national and provincial numbers.

In Ontario, the unemployment rate stands at 5.4 per cent.

On a national level, the jobless rate is 5.5 per cent.
