Dunvegan strives to remain perfect
Staff Now that the Dunvegan Senior Women’s soccer team has finished the regular season with a perfect 12-0-0 record, the squad will, once again, challenge for the championship once Glengarry Soccer League playoffs begin next week.
The first-place Dunvegan team will host Maxville at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 6. At the same time, the second place team from Laggan will host Vankleek Hill at the Lochiel big field. Game 2 for both pairings will take place the following Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 8:30 p.m. at Alexandria Park and the Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute Field. Should the series require a deciding third game, the finales will be played on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 8:30 p.m. in Dunvegan and Lochiel.
It was a banner year for Dunvegan. Not only did the team go undefeated, the side didn’t even surrender one goal. Throughout the course of the 12-game season, which started July 23 with A 8-0 shutout of Glen Sandfield, the team went on to register 78 tallies and finished the year with a perfect 36 points. Runner-up Laggan finished with a 9-0-3 record. Vankleek Hill was 2-1-8, Maxville 2-2-8 and Glen Sandfield 2-1-9.
In the senior men’s league, things aren’t so lopsided as a mere 11 points separate the top seeded Glen Sandfield team (6-2-3) from the fourth place team in Dunvegan (3-0-8.) The other two teams are Alexandria FC (5-3-3) and Alexandria 5-1-5. Playoffs begin on Aug. 7, but the matchups will be determined after the final regular season games tonight, July 31, at 8:30 p.m.. Alexandria FC hosts Dunvegan at Island Park in Alexandria at 8:30 p.m. while Glen Sandfield hosts Alexandria at the Lochiel Big Field.
