Local businesses are being invited to “art” their walls with works from the Collectif d’artistes de Glengarry Artists’ Collective ArtBank. The works can be viewed on the cagacartbank.ca site. In the coming weeks, will profile ArtBank artists based on information submitted by the collective.
This week, we introduce Bobi Leutschaft Poitras, president of the Collective.
Bobi Leutschaft Poitras has written poetry ever since she can remember and has been painting as a serious artist for just over four years. She'd dabbled in decorative painting, but when she took an acrylic class at Encore she discovered the creative energy paint, brushes, and a canvas can bring. From there, her painting career took off.
Bobi works with acrylics, painting whatever moves her. She often dispenses with traditional concepts and paints to suit the topic: from field flowers and bugs, to the darkest realms of human thought and existence. “Beauty and ugliness know no bounds, so neither will I,” is her attitude. She approaches her art with a passionate determination to produce work that speaks her mind. She believes if it speaks to others as well, that’s a bonus. In 2003 Bobi moved from the West Island of Montreal with her husband and four children to a hobby farm in Green Valley. In 2015 they moved to the big city – Alexandria. She loves Glengarry and marvels at its many talented artists; painters, writers, sculptors, and musicians alike.
In 2015, Bobi co-founded Collectif d’artistes de Glengarry Artists’ Collective with friend and mentor Yvonne Callaway. The group now numbers 97 and highlights art and culture in Glengarry.
Bobi’s works hang in Germany, China, the USA, and across Canada, and many will be featured in her upcoming book of poetry.
