Im­paired driver ditches ve­hi­cle

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNEWAWANOSH, ON) - Huron County On­tario Pro­vin­cial Po­lice (OPP) has charged a 24-year-old male from Ashfield-ColborneWawanosh with Driv­ing a Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle With Over 80 Mil­ligrams of Al­co­hol fol­low­ing a sin­gle mo­tor col­li­sion this past week­end. At ap­prox­i­mately 11:20 p.m. on Sun­day, Novem­ber 25, 2018 Huron County OPP of­fi­cers were dis­patched to a prop­erty on Zion Road af­ter a prop­erty owner came across a ve­hi­cle that had been driven off the road­way into the ditch.

Upon ar­rival the in­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cer lo­cated the un­in­jured driver at the scene along with his heav­ily dam­aged ve­hi­cle.

While speak­ing with the driver the of­fi­cer de­tected the odour of al­co­hol on the driver and had rea­son to be­lieve the driver had been con­sum­ing some al­co­hol. As a re­sult, the driver pro­vided a roadside sam­ple of his breath into an ap­proved screen­ing de­vice and his sam­ple reg­is­tered a fail.

He was sub­se­quently placed un­der ar­rest and was trans­ported to the Huron OPP De­tach­ment for breath­a­lyzer tests, where­upon he pro­vided two sam­ples of his breath that were an­a­lyzed to be over the le­gal limit.

A man of 24 years of age, from Ashfield-Col­borne-Wawanosh has been charged with Drive Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle with Over 80 Mil­ligrams of Al­co­hol.

He has since been re­leased from cus­tody with a court date sched­uled for Jan­uary 7, 2018 at the On­tario Court of Jus­tice Goderich.
