-

The Stratford and Area Watershed Improvement Group and the Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project are looking for volunteers to help plant native trees and shrubs on Oct. 13.

One planting is at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 151 Stratford Rd., , 9 a. m. to noon, part of a continuing effort to enhance streamsides throughout the area. A mix of native trees, shrubs and wildflowers will be planted on the edge of the wetland that runs between the church and the Stratford Road. This event for all ages will take place rain or shine. There will be lots of tools available or bring along a favourite shovel. For more information, call Kelley, 367- 3605, or Gary, 651- 2575.

The Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project is then hosting a volunteer planting at 2 p. m. Volunteers will meet at one of the Public Forest Land properties ECO- P. E. I. is managing for the province. Participants will plant native plants to improve wildlife habitat, increase biodiversity and add value to the woodland.

The property, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, is on Route 204 ( the Gairloch Road). If coming from Charlottetown, take the Trans- Canada Highway to Eldon and turn left at the Cooper’s Store intersection onto the Garfield Road ( Route 207). At Route 204, turn left and look for the trailhead about 1km on the right. There will be vehicles on the side of the road.

Volunteers should dress according to the weather. Shovels are welcome, however there will be extras. Macphail Woods staff will be on- site, 2- 4 p. m. Email macphailwoods@gmail.com, call 651- 2575 or visit the Facebook page.

This planting is part of a series taking place across P. E. I. in 20 watersheds.
