Swimming for Autism Fun Relay set for Oct. 13 in Summerside

The Autism Society of P. E. I., in partnershi­p with Barb McNeill ( P. E. I. Sports Hall of Famer and recipient of the Order of P. E. I.) and the City of Summerside, has announced that during October ( Autism Awareness Month) a new fundraiser will be held in support of the Autism Society.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, 10 a. m. to 1 p. m., at the Credit Union Place pool in Summerside, the society will host a Swimming for Autism Fun Relay.

“One more opportunit­y to get out your bathing suit and swimming trunks, this is going to be a great day of fun and fundraisin­g,” says a release.

“The lane pool will be used for the relay and the side pool at the Credit Union place will be lifeguarde­d and the slide will be open. What a great day to spend with your family and friends. Bring along any supporters ( children, family and friends) who can enjoy a swim in the leisure pool and cheer on the participan­ts at the same time.”

Team entrants are allowed to have a minimum of four participan­ts and a maximum of eight who will take turns swimming lengths of the pool for a total team time of 30 minutes.

This is a fun relay and is for participan­ts of all ages and skill level.

“We want to have a fun day with lots of laughs, memories and good times in support of the Autism Society,” says the release.

There will also be food and prizes following the swim event, and prizes will be awarded for top pledge collector as well as top team pledge collector. Lots of other prizes will be given away as well.

Team spaces are filling up fast to be sure to gather up a team quickly. Prizes for creativity will be awarded and there will be a photograph­er on the pool deck that day to capture all of the memories.

All pledges of $ 10 and over collected will receive a tax receipt from the Autism Society of P. E. I.
