James ‘ Charles’ MacDonald

-

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home in Orwell, after a courageous battle with lung cancer on Saturday, October 8, 2011. He was 81 years of age. Charles was born to Leo and Helen MacDonald August 9, 1930 and grew up with his brothers and sisters in the community he has always called home, Orwell. It was in this very community that he met the love of his life, Joan Murphy. They were joined in marriage on June 15, 1949 and together they raised their five children. They spent 50 loving years married to one another when our mother Joan was diagnosed with cancer and passed away. In the hours before his passing he was still talking about Mom and smiling. Charles loved and adored his children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, family and friends. He left school at a young age to help his father run the family farm, and farming and horses were something that he was always involved in and both very close to his heart. He was a regular fixture at the Charlottetown Driving Park throughout the years. Two of his most memorable horses were two that he bred and raised on his farm - Jamie’s Big Score and JC Riley. He was a dedicated mailman for 49 years and there he made many lasting friendships. Although it breaks our hearts to not have him here with us today, we are ever so thankful for every moment we were fortunate enough to have shared with this man we loved. He is survived by his children; Jeannie, Jimmy ( Judy), Michael ( Jean), Dougie ( Cindy) and Alan ( Janice), His grandchildren; Robbie, Shawn, Marc, Jamie, Maddy, Johnathan, Candace, Joshua, Meghan, Jill, Kris, Kyle and Chelsey. His great- grandchildren; Jordan, Lauren, Avery, Jude, James, Landon, Allie, Cadence, Mallory, Kohen, Kenzie, Abel and Rayah. His siblings; Wilbur ( Marie), Marcellus ( Sheila), Ronalda ( James) Whalen, Augusta ( Don) Harriman, Ignatius ( Ita) and Gloria ( Cyril) Chapman. He was predeceased by his wife Joan. His parents; Leo and Helen. His brother; Ronald, and sister; Gloria, and sisters- in- law; Lorna and Pauline. Calm and peaceful he is sleeping Sweetest rest that follows pain, We who loved him, sadly miss him

But trust in God to meet again. We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who helped during Dad’s illness and who joined us in celebrating his life.
