Jennifer Watson chosen as JA 2011/ 2012 Volunteer of the Year
Jennifer Watson, account service representative with Invesco has been named Junior Achievement of P. E. I.’ s Volunteer of the Year for 2011/ 2012.
Each year Junior Achievement of P. E. I. recognizes the efforts put forth by volunteers who go above and beyond to make a significant contribution to their organization and the future of the Island’s young people. During the 2011/ 2012 school year, volunteers were able to make Junior Achievement programs come alive for over 4,500 students in 224 classrooms across the province.
Kelli Cook, senior manager - programs and operations for Junior Achievement P. E. I., says she is thrilled with this year’s selection.
“When we find a volunteer like Jennifer who realizes the inspiration they can provide to these students is priceless and that they can empower youth with the knowledge that they can make a difference, too, it is truly valuable to us and to our communities” said Cook.
Watson says her experience over the past three years with JA has been rewarding.
“I enjoy the interaction with the students and teaching them the JA program - Economics for Success.”
Watson adds that this program is an excellent way for students to look into their future and help plan their educational path towards success. She enjoys sharing her personal educational experiences and encouraging the students to continue with their education.
Cook says volunteers are the backbone of their organization. They would not have the ability to continue reaching so many young Islanders without the commitment and the support of dedicated volunteers like Watson who became involved with volunteering for their Economics For success program in 2009 while studying for her BBA at UPEI.
After completing her education, Watson began her career with Invesco in 2011 and acted as a key component to their success this past school year by actively assisting in the recruitment and mentoring of fellow Invesco associates.
Invesco encourages community involvement from their associates and with Watson’s help and enthusiasm for JA programs, has remained one of Junior Achievement of P. E. I.’ s largest contributors of volunteers.
Watson, who resides in Stratford with her husband, Ashley, grew up in Montague. She is a family- oriented person and has chosen to remain on the Island so that she can be near her family. However, she and her husband love to travel and take every opportunity to explore other countries and cultures.
