Alumnae members meet for annual meeting

The 73rd annual meeting of the Alumnae Associatio­n of the Prince Edward Island Hospital School of Nursing was held on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Brecken House, Prince Edward Home, Charlottet­own.

Twenty- five members attended.

President Eleanor Davies called the meeting to order, and the secretary, Margaret MacKinnon, read the minutes of the last annual meeting.

In her report, the president highlighte­d alumnae activities of the past year. She thanked the editor of the newsletter and her committee, as well as the annual dinner committee and all of the members who contribute­d to or participat­ed in alumnae events.

Treasurer Gwen Reid presented the financial report.

Correspond­ence secretary Joan Shears reported sending 94 cards for various occasions during the past year.

On behalf of Margaret Hatcher, Flo Bell read the report of the annual dinner committee, noting that 164 graduates and three guests attended.

Other reports were given by Marian MacDonald, sick and visiting committee; Clara MacLeod, for the program committee, and by Eileen Drake, press and publicity secretary.

Marilyn Kennedy presented the executive for the coming year: Flo Bell, president; Judy Cotton, vice- president; Betsy Houston, recording secretary; Shirley Hyndman, treasurer; Joan Shears, correspond­ence secretary.

Committees for the coming year include: sick and visiting - Marian MacDonald, Isabel Bowman, Clara MacLeod; Christmas luncheon - Betsy Houston; annual dinner - Margaret Hatcher, Flo Bell; program - Jean Annear, Ruth Yeo; newsletter - Joyce England; press and publicity - Eileen Drake.

Isabel Court and Ruth Whiteway will act as auditors. Joan Shears and Gloria Stevenson will continue to forward items to the Belmont St. food bank.

The business of the annual meeting having been concluded, Bell, incoming president, assumed the chair to conduct the regular meeting, which began with the reading of the minutes of the May meeting.

The treasurer’s report was given by Reid, who noted that there are 270 paid- up members.

Bowman reported for the sick and visiting committee, and Shears reported having sent 16 cards since the May meeting.

The new president thanked the previous executive members for their leadership during their term of office.

She also reminded members that the deadline for submission­s to the Fall newsletter is Oct. 19 and that the Christmas luncheon will take place at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Belvedere Golf Club in Charlottet­own.

Marilyn Kennedy expressed her surprise and pleasure at receiving the Alumna of the Year Award and thanked the members for the recognitio­n.

Davies noted the receipt of an invitation to attend the Deans’ Honours and Awards night at the University of Prince Edward Island, to be held on Oct. 2.

The next meeting will be held Oct. 16, at Andrews of Stratford, getting underway at 5 p. m.
