Performers announced for Sunday Night Shenanigans matinee

-

The fall series of matinees for Sunday Night Shenanigans, hosted by Judy MacLean, continues to offer exciting entertainment lineups each week starting at 2 p. m.

Guests on Oct. 14 include Michael Pendergast, recording artist Dino Dunsford and young fiddler Fiona MacCorquodale.

For young folks, Pendergast is certainly a recognized name as he has performed at hundreds of Island events where the focus was always on children. Oct. 14 marks Pendergast’s first performance on the Sunday Night Shenanigans stage, and no doubt he will be bringing along several instruments he loves to play, including his accordion. He counts himself among the biggest fans of P. E. I. songs, both old and contemporary, and has a song to tickle every age and ear. He has also developed an extensive repertoire of music that tells the story of P. E. I., from J. J. Trainer’s Moonshiner’s Fate to some of his own compositions like The Fifty Fifty Song.

For fans of gospel, traditional and some good old singalong tunes, Dunsford is a master at keeping an audience in the palm of his hand. He has had a busy season performing at the P. E. I. Preserve Company ceilidhs and several other summertime events. He has an extensive background in music and has played with many local bands, including Dino and the Satins, Dino and Friends, The Classics and Dino and the Harmonies. His rich vocals and his friendly onstage manner gain him lots of followers wherever he performs.

Fiona, who is 14, has been playing the ceilidh circuit all summer. She also performed at several functions at UPEI for the Andrews Hockey School.

She is the youngest musician ever to be nominated for a Music P. E. I. award. In addition, she produced a CD called Eleven at 11 years old and has performed at the Shellfish Fesitval in Charlottetown.

She credits her teacher/ mentor, Aaron Crane, for honing her fiddling skills as well as those on piano. She is a member of the Queens County Fiddlers and a step- dancing student of The Judy MacLean Private School of Dance.

Other guests to perform at this week’s Sunday Night Shenanigans matinee event are the Curran Family Singers ( Angela Curran,

Allan and her daughter, Andrea CurranMacPherson), award- winning Celtic vocalist Mallory McInnis and the high- stepping Judy MacLean Dancers ( Alyssa Dalton, Madison McPhee and Mallory McInnis).

There is always a delicious homemade lunch with biscuits, sandwiches and jams, compliments of the P. E. I. Preserve Company, plus a 50/ 50 draw, prizes and more.

Tickets are available at the door beginning at 1 p. m.
