Postal Service History Circle at Eptek Centre

-

The Summerside and Area Historical Society will host a history circle on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2 p. m., to celebrate 50 years of door- to- door postal delivery in Summerside.

The community of Summerside has enjoyed the service of some memorable characters who served as mailmen over the years, and the historical society wants to be sure that their stories are recorded for future generations.

The importance of daily doortodoor delivery is difficult to understand in this current age of electronic communication.

The society wants to recognize and celebrate the change this service made in the lives of Summerside residents.

A panel of three local figures will lead the proceedings. Special guest panelists Roy Crozier and Gerard Dalton will join master of ceremonies Paul H. Schurman as they recount stories from their days on the postal walks.

Both Crozier and Dalton were among the original mailmen.

Past and current mail walk employees are encouraged to attend to share their adventures, and the public is asked to reminisce about their favourite mailmen.

In addition, members of the public are invited to bring related photos and memorabilia to add to the presentation.

Society president Peter Holman can be reached for more details at 432- 0736. Interested individuals may also contact Eptek Centre at 888- 8373.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Eptek Art & Culture Centre is located at 130 Harbour Dr., Summerside, and is a site of the P. E. I. Museum.
