Concert at Old Belle River Church

-

Erin Costelo returns to the Old Belle River Church on Sept. 21, 8 p. m., revved up from a summer packed with performances at exciting international jazz festivals across the nation.

Ryan McGrath will be sharing the bill.

From Victoria and Vancouver to Ottawa ( where she opened for Boz Skaggs), Toronto and Montreal to the P. E. I. Jazz and Blues Festival, she has wowed audiences earning a rapidly expanding host of enthusiastic and loyal fans.

Reminiscent of Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner, Costelo’s rich throaty voice transports the listener along song story- lines like magic.

Her love of 1960s soul and Burt Baccarach- inspired arrangements is evident in the warm, velvety melodies flowing through her album, We Can Get Over.

McGrath’s folk/ pop style is often compared to Rufus Wainwright and Hawksley Workman.

“Raw and pared down, his latest EP The Pink Lark reveals his vulnerability and vocal strengths,” a news release states

In 2011, McGrath’s album, Cooper Hatch Paris, was awarded Music Nova Scotia’s alternative recording of the year and nominated for the 2011 ECMA alternative recording of the year, male solo recording of the year and rising star recording of the year.

Two of MacGrath’s songs were featured in Thom Fitzgerald’s movie Cloudburst, starring Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker.

MacGrath contributed Bird and Cage from Cooper Hatch Paris and Like You Do, a song penned specifically for the movie.

A $ 15 donation to this show is requested. Bring snacks as well as refreshment ( wine, beer or spirits), if desired, to the OBC.
