Trumpet virtuoso Paul Tynan to perform in Charlottet­own

Saturday, Nov. 9, promises to be a great night for jazz fans in P. E. I., as trumpet virtuoso Paul Tynan will be the special guest for the Winterjazz concert series.

Tynan, who now teaches at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, is regarded as one of the best young jazz trumpet players in North America. The Internatio­nal Trumpet Guild has stated that downbeat award winning trumpet player and composer, Tynan, posses a “. . . creative genius”.

As a jazz recording artist he has appeared on over 50 albums alongside such musicians as Lynn Seaton, Marcus Wolfe, Aaron Lington, Joel Fountain, Bobby Selvaggio, Kenny Werner, Kenny Wheeler, Dan Haerle, Ben Street and Jamey Haddad.

Joining Tynan on stage for the show will be the house band of Alan Dowling on drums, Glen Strickey on saxophones, Ian Toms on guitar and Deryl Gallant on bass, a group of some of the Island’s best jazz musicians and winners of the jazz recording of the year at the Music P. E. I. awards, as well as being nominated for two ECMAs.

The show will take place at Globe World Flavours at 132 Richmond St. ( Victoria Row) 8- 10: 30 p. m. Admission for the show is $ 10, with the profits going to an entrance scholarshi­p for Island students entering a jazz program.
