REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICES
The Wheatley River Remembrance Day service will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a. m., assembling at the cenotaph for the reading of the names on the monument and laying of wreaths, then proceeding to the hall for a service with several guest speakers. Following the service, chili/ corn chowder luncheon with desserts will be held at Glasgow Road Church Hall. MUSEUMS AND INTERPRETIVE CENTRES
The Acadian Museum in Miscouche highlights the odyssey of Island Acadians from 1720 to the present. Island Acadian Men is a display of photographs from 1895 to 1960. Most of the 65 photos come from family albums from various Acadian regions of P. E. I. The exhibition is on display until Dec. 24. There is also a genealogy centre. Beaconsfield House in Charlottetown, built in 1877, was considered one of Charlottetown’s finest homes. With eight fireplaces, imported chandeliers and encaustic tiling, it was equipped with all the modern conveniences of the time. The house, one of seven P. E. I. Museum sites, is open for tours, hosts events in its Carriage House and has a small gift shop and bookstore. Admission is charged. Call 368- 6603 for information. The Bedeque Area Historical Museum is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, noon to 2 p. m., and by appointment ( 887- 3009). Housed in the old Callbeck store in Central Bedeque, the museum is featuring two aspects of its collection: the story of Callbeck’s General Store, a focal point for the community and beyond for over a century, and is a selection from the collection of local historian Howard Clark who for over 60 years accumulated thousands of objects related to the history especially of the Chelton area.
