The funeral for MaryAnn MacDonald, beloved wife of Gerard MacDonald, of Oyster Bed Bridge, was held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, South Rustico. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Frank Jay, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by her husband, Gerard MacDonald, her daughter, Cheryl Tweel, and her grandsons, Jeremy and Andrew Boyle. The first reading, from Isaiah, was addressed by Angela Dowie and the second reading, from Revelation, was addressed by daughter, Cheryl Tweel. The prayers of the faithful were led by Father Jay. The altar servers were Harold Doucette, Alyre Gallant and Joseph O. Gallant. Alyre Gallant assisted Father Jay as a eucharisti­c minister. The music was provided by the St. Augustine’s Choir with Shane Arsenault as organist and choir director. The hymns were: Entrance, Be Not Afraid; psalm, The Lord’s My Shepherd; Celtic Alleluia, with Shane Arsenault as the cantor; offertory, Seek Ye First; communion, O Sacred Heart; post communion, The Old Rugged Cross, sung by the choir; commendati­on, Songs of the Angels; and recessiona­l, Amazing Grace. The pallbearer­s were Paul Saulnier, Rick Doucette, Reginald MacDonald, Alistair Dowie, Kevin Gallant and Pius Gallant. Interment took place at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Mount Stewart, where Father Jay conducted the committal service. Funeral arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
