Ellis Family Band makes first appearance at Close to the Ground
It’s going to be a big night at Close to the Ground tonight at 8 p.m. as hosts Fiddlers’ Sons welcome the popular Ellis Family Band to their stage at the air-conditioned Kaylee Hall in Pooles Corner for the first time.
From the early years 1970s until the early 1980s the Ellis Family Band played at dances, festivals and weddings across P.E.I. In 1983 they decided to live their dream of playing music professionally and went to Nashville, Tenn. The first song they recorded was Easy To Love, a song written by Ethel and Rick Ellis. When they released the song to radio, things began to happen very quickly. It became an instant hit across Canada, which led to a Juno nomination. One of many highlights of their first professional tour in 1984 was sharing the stage with Jerry Reid (Smokey and the Bandit), Joe Stampley, Gary Morris and the legendary George Jones.
The group went on to enjoy touring, topping the charts with their original songs including one of their most popular Mother of Mine and winning awards, accolades and fans where ever they went. Having been retired since 1999, the bad has recently come back together to perform publically, much to the delight of their extensive fan base here at home and all across Canada.
The Kaylee Hall is located at the intersection of routes three and four just outside of Montague. All ages are welcome with admission by cash only at the door. Canteen service is available along with a 50/50 draw and musical recordings for sale. Close to the Ground runs every Thursday until the end of September.
