Under-18 nationals to be hosted in Charlottet­own from Aug. 8 to 14

Charlottet­own is getting ready to host one of the largest Canadian women’s fastpitch championsh­ips in August.

The Softball Canada under18 championsh­ip, which has 21 teams registered, will bring together more than 500 athletes, coaches and support staff representi­ng 10 provinces/territorie­s competing for the national title. Taking place Aug. 8 to 14 at the Central Field Complex and City Diamond in Charlottet­own, the seven-day, 100-game event will also attract hundreds of fans, family and friends from across the country to cheer on some of Canada’s best up-and-coming female softball players.

The event was last hosted in Prince Edward Island in 2013, when the Saskatoon Selects won the tournament in Charlottet­own. A look at where participat­ing teams are from: 3 – British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and New Brunswick. 2 – Saskatchew­an. 1 – Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundla­nd and Labrador and Prince Edward Island. event to help with everything from ticket taking to hospitalit­y and scorekeepi­ng.

“Our volunteer organizing committee has been working hard to plan an outstandin­g event for fans, sponsors and the community to enjoy,” said committee chairwoman Carol Mayne. “We know that the key to a successful event is our volunteers. We are very grateful for those who have signed up thus far; however, we still need many more volunteers to make this event successful.”
