Green Party MLA Peter Bevan-Baker is hanging up his dentist drill.

The District 17 MLA announced on his blog Monday that he had sold his dental office in Hampton last week.

Bevan-Baker has been a dentist for more than 30 years.

He had also ran for political office, provincially and federally in Ontario and P.E.I., nine times before being elected last year.

He said he had made an effort to maintain the office while also serving as an MLA.

“It has been an agonizing decision, but I have concluded that changing the political culture of a whole province is not a part-time job,” said BevanBaker on his blog.

“It has become abundantly clear that if my success at being elected last year is to mean anything beyond a quirky footnote in Island political history, I will need to devote myself entirely to the job of building the Island Green Party.”

The building, which also housed Bites Café, was previously the Hampton United Church.

Bevan-Baker had purchased the church and renovated it “It has become abundantly clear that if my success at being elected last year is to mean anything beyond a quirky footnote in Island political history, I will need to devote myself entirely to the job of building the Island Green Party.”
