MACKINNON, Mabel Etta
A celebration for the life of Mabel MacKinnon (nee Simpson), wife of the late Hugh MacKinnon, of Charlottetown, and formerly of Pleasant Valley and Cavendish, was held on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Zion Presbyterian Church, Charlottetown. The service was conducted by Reverend Douglas Rollwage and Reverend Dr. Gordon J. Matheson, who gave the meditation, Our Final Home. Granddaughter, Katelyn Godfrey, read Psalm 23 and granddaughter, Valerie Axworthy, read from John 14. Words of remembrance were shared by granddaughters, Marsha Karasiuk and Anna Axworthy-Campos. The organist was Elizabeth Lang. Soloist, Ellen Blair, accompanied by pianist, Judy Lowe, rendered the hymns, Softly and Tenderly and Precious Lord. Honorary pallbearers were sister, Joyce Keizer; brother-in-law, Lorne Keizer; and friends, Carl and Reby Sharpe, Elmer and Sandra Weeks, Carol and Everett MacLellan, Louis and Clemmie Campbell, Lonie van Westerning, Judy Smith, Adelaide Weeks, Sally Stewart, Betty Matheson, Donna MacLeod and Dale Simpson. Pallbearers were sons-in-law, William Stewart and Blair Tweedy; grandsons, Kent MacKinnon, Scott MacKinnon and Matthew Tweedy; and grandsonsin-law, Rob Godfrey and Ryan Graham. Flowerbearers were granddaughters, Janice Graham, Kara MacKinnon, Jillian Tweedy and Christiana Tweedy; great-grandsons, Kyler van der Gaag, Chad Hegarty and Jeremy Hegarty; and cousin, Maida Campbell. Among those in attendance were members of the Earnscliffe Women’s Institute. Interment took place in Pleasant Valley Memorial Cemetery where Rev. Dr. Matheson conducted the committal service. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
