A made-in-West Prince Senior Hockey League could be skating into existence around Christmas time.

Representative from four interested teams attended a planning meeting Monday night in Tyne Valley and a fifth team gave indications it wants to ice a team reports Adam MacLennan who is both Tyne Valley representative and league spokesman.

“I think it is going to be a go,” MacLennan said enthusiastically.

The idea for a new league was borne during a couple of homeand-home exhibition series last spring.

Team representatives schedule, rules player eligibility.

Representatives for teams out of Wellington, Tignish, Alberton and Tyne Valley were in attendance and a team from O’Leary expressed interest in being in the loop

MacLennan said all teams want it to be a West Prince league with players from the area. Eligibility is by fire district and/or where they played minor hockey.

“We want to go back to old time senior hockey,” said MacLennan.

It will be a light schedule the first season, just 12 games per team followed by a playoff schedule.

For the most part, teams will play just one game per week and will be spread out enough that fans will be able to follow different teams each week.

MacLennan said the light schedule might actually be good for rinks, drawing large crowds to every home game.

The league is still in need of a league president.

MacLennan said team reps will be making enquiries to West Prince residents who might be willing to take on the role, and he is interested in hearing from anyone who would be interested in the role.
