Islanders perfect on road trip
Charlottetown defeats Rimouski on Sunday
Make it 3-for-3 for the Charlottetown Islanders in its last road trip through Quebec after Sunday’s 5-3 win over the Rimouski Oceanic.
Charlottetown (40-16-3-0) benefitted from goals by Daniel Sprong (1-2), Nicolas Meloche (1-1), Filip Chlapik, Adam Marsh and Francois Beauchemin.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League club scored four times in the third period to break open a 1-1 game after two frames.
Rimouski outshot Charlottetown 31-30, but Matthew Welsh held the fort for his 22nd win this season.
Maxim Trepanier, Tyler Boland and Charle-Edouard D’Astrous had the Oceanic goals.
Summerside native Carson MacKinnon had an assist on the D’Astrous marker.
Charles-Oliver Levesque was tagged with the loss.
Neither team had a powerplay goal in a combined seven chances.
Saturday, versus the Remparts in Quebec City, Charlottetown scored twice in the first and third periods for the win.
Sprong (1-1), Guillaume Brisebois (1-1), Alex Dostie, Chlapik and Meloche did the damage for the Islanders, who outshot Quebec 40-15 and went 1-for-1 on the power play.
Andrew Coxhead and Philipp Kurashev had Quebec’s goals.
Mark Grametbauer earned his 18th win.
Friday, the Islanders scored a 3-0 win over Blainville-Boisbriand.
