Learn to lead

-

A three-day training course on leadership is coming to Stratford in April.

Art of Hosting is set to take place April 27-29, focusing on participatory decision-making, effective facilitation, inclusive dialogue and the co-creation of innovative ways to tackle complex issues.

“We’re really excited about the potential outcomes of this international training,’’ said Shannon Courtney, leader of the organizing team. “I took the training a few years ago in Fredericton and it fundamentally changed how I approach my work with different stakeholders. I know it has the potential to be a game-changer for anyone that participates.’’

He said the training is versatile and will benefit anyone working in a position of leadership in their workplace or community or those preparing to take on such a role in the future.

Courtney is part of a fourperson organizing team that also includes Dr. Lyndsay Moffatt, Ramona Doyle and Katharine MacDonald. The workshop, which will take place at Fox Meadow Golf Course, will be stewarded by Tim Merry, Amanda Hachey and Marguerite Drescher.

Merry is the co-founder of the Art of Hosting and also facilitated the Georgetown 2.0 Conference and Y-Day Summit in Charlottetown.

Participants can expect to learn methods to run more effective and meaningful meetings, facilitate internal/external engagements and shepherd long-term, complex change initiatives.

The training will also delve into how each participant can improve and adapt their leadership to respond to the everchanging realities they face and how this might apply to work with teams, groups and larger systems change.

“It’s not really easy to articulate precisely what you will experience at Art of Hosting. It’s complex and fluid, just like the world we are all working and living in,’’ Courtney said. “But I am certain that anyone who participates wholeheartedly will walk away afterwards feeling like they’ve gained important insights and valuable tools that they can use in their work for years to come.’’
