City taxpayers being ignored

-

Letters to the editor involving high end spending by Summerside City Council, as well the Summerside Port Authority exposed without proper building permits for a new Dixie Lee establishment, have got many talking about the way our tax dollars are being spent.

Government and municipalities talk of openness, transparency and accountability. Having worked within the City for 40 years, I am very aware of many situations that were mismanaged and covered up. Many people are well aware of my case whereby the mayor and council were deemed guilty of malicious persecution against me. After appealing to every court available, ending up in Supreme Court of Canada, after 13 years. This of course was followed by the concert fiasco and the redacted Hopping Report, which covered up for all the wrong doers.

When the new mayor came into play in 2014 he promised openness, transparency and change. He has not answered my letters about spending, including their 22-24 per cent raise since elected. Recently the Summerside Port Authority has ¾’ers completed an establishment to be leased, without proper permits in place. Again, full disclosure requested and to date, nothing.

This silence is very disturbing. Some of these individuals are elected to municipal government, and are the very ones spending our hard earned money. Obviously they feel they do not have to answer to taxpayers, forgetting it’s our tax dollars that pays them.

I sure hope people stand tall on these issues and don’t forget come election time.

Dave Griffin,

Summerside
